Divide time like the
divisions on a twenty-four inch gauge.

There are twenty-four equal
parts and twenty-four hours in the day.

We can then divide 3 into 24 where we are left with:
8 hrs devoted to spirit and a
distressed worthy friend
8 hrs for our usual vocations
8 hrs for refreshment and sleep”

The common gavel is an instrument
used by masons to break off the corners of
rough stones,
the better to fit them for the builders use……

We are taught to make use of it
for the noble and glorious purpose of divesting
our hearts and consciences of all the vices and superfluities of life;
thereby fitting our minds as living stones for that spiritual building….”

THE BIRTHDAY OF THE SUN

  The pagans set aside the 25th of December as the birthday of the Solar Man. They rejoiced, feasted, gathered in processions, and made offerings in the temples. The darkness of winter was over and the glorious son of light was returning to the Northern Hemisphere. With his last effort the old Sun God had torn down the house of the Philistines (the Spirits of Darkness) and had cleared the way for the new sun who was born that day from the depths of the earth amidst the symbolic beasts of the lower world.
